Your AC System and Parts
Do you understand how your air conditioning system works and just how important it is to your ride? Your car’s AC converts a pressurized refrigerant from a gaseous to a liquid state. At the end of the cycle, the refrigerant is cold and gaseous. Outside air is filtered through the system, cooled, and sent to the cabin. There are five main components in your vehicle’s AC system: the compressor, condenser, receiver/dryer, expansion valve (or orifice tube), and evaporator. Each component has a specific job to fulfill for the AC system to operate properly. For example, the expansion valve removes pressure from the liquid refrigerant, converting it from liquid to vapor inside the evaporator. It also controls the flow of the refrigerant. As your car’s AC runs, it is exposed to potential stressors: heat from the engine, constant vibrations, fast stops, dirt and debris, and jarring bumps and curb hits. At least once a year, we recommend you have your AC system fully inspected and serviced if necessary. Here at Trinity Auto Haus in Waco, Texas, we’ll confirm its condition and recommend auto AC repair or replacement. Find us on Franklin Ave.
